What is Fair trade?

Fair trade is a trading partnership which enables disadvantaged coffee producers from developing countries benefit from global trade. The Fairtrade Certification System, ensures that they receive a fair price for the products they produce.

How does it work?

Small farmers join together to form cooperatives. This allows the cooperatives to buy their own coffee, process, and sell their products to the market under Fairtrade conditions. This eliminates the need for the middleman, securing greater price stability, allowing the cooperatives to trade directly and compete with larger plantations.

The coffee is purchased at a premium, allowing the cooperative to invest in development projects such as schools, providing better health care, low cost credit schemes, infrastructure development, and improving farming methods and coffee quality.

The FAIRTRADE Label that appears on Earth Blends, is the only independently verified guarantee that the coffee has been produced and traded under fair trade conditions.
